Now that I am wed, it is just so hard for me to explain the ghosts in my past. I've done many researches thinking that the diagnosis thirteen years ago was just a mistake or perhaps I just heard them wrong. To my dismay, all the medical books read the same. With infertility as one of the most severe consequence, treated or not treated, I opt to cure the damage that has already been done. But with little that we have, opting to be pregnant with the help of technology is far of reach.
I did researches on my own. What I have is called secondary infertility for I was able to bore children from my younger years before the dreadful pelvic inflammatory disease chose me as a victim. Primary infertility includes those who have been trying to get pregnant for more than a year and still unsuccessful.
The infertility problem may have lots of causes. My case is caused by blocked fallopian tubes where the passage way of the eggs to the ovaries are technically blocked or damaged. One other cause is polycystic ovary syndrome where the quality of eggs produced by the woman is not healthy due to irregular ovulation or no ovulation at all. While other causes are not yet well determined by doctors, the infertility problem is not only attributed to women, it may be attributed to men as well or a combination of both. That is why it is essential for couples to have cooperation and to seek medical intervention.
I was always hoping for a treatment to my infertility. Even so, the treatment to infertility varies according to its cause once determined. Polycystic ovary syndrome may have to undergo series of test like urinalysis and pelvic ultrasounds. Constant and open communication with an infertility specialist may be needed to have a full assessment of what is wrong. Hormonal check ups, may be done prior to any therapy to be recommended such as fertility pills or In Vitro Fertilization. Blocked fallopian tubes may have to undergo laparoscopy to determine how big the damage is but in my case in vitro fertilization is the only remedy (The disease may have caused more damage to my fallopian tubes especially if the disease that attacked is Chlamydia).
Treatment for male factor infertility may have to undergo series of test as well. Sperm count in common terms is also essential to evaluate the right number, quality and the mobility of the sperm cells produced. Treatment vary according to test results, some may require surgery depending on severity. Most common treatment is the injection of sperm directly into the egg which is still part of in vitro fertilization.
In Vitro Fertilization was first introduced in 1981 that produced 250,000 babies. Babies who were born with this technique are called test tube babies as it is most popularly known. This is a medical process or technique where the man’s sperm and the woman’s egg are placed in a laboratory dish to undergo fertilization. In effect, embryo is produced which is then transferred to the woman’s womb so that natural development will occur. This type of solution gives me a chance to be pregnant again but with little that we have, this option is close to impossible.
